I highly recommend using GNU GRUB instead of LILO. It has great
support for headless boxes, you can change all boot settings on the
fly, and, well, you (almost) never have to change your boot sector
again.

Some GNU/Linux distributions are switching away from LILO to GRUB, and
I recommend every one else does, too. It saves a lot of time and a
lot of hassle.
