I doubt any web-based forum could offer the flexibility and ease of use of
the mailing list.
If you want to cut down on the email volume, you can change your
subscription to the "digest" form of the list by going to
http://www.oclug.on.ca/mailman/listinfo/oclug (log in via the "OCLUG
Subscribers" section at the bottom).
Alternatively, you could read the list via the online archives
(http://www.oclug.on.ca/lists.php, or
http://archive.davin.ottawa.on.ca/linux-oclug/). They're not updated in
realtime with list postings, but it's generally not too far behind the
actual list.
My personal suggestion is that you remain on the non-digest form of the list
and learn and use one of the many Open Source applications that can help you
deal with large volumes of incoming mail. You can use pre-filtering
software such as procmail, or a mail client with filtering rules like
Evolution, or one of dozens of other comparable solutions.
For example, to cope with the huge quantity of email I receive (I'm on way
too many lists), I use procmail to filter the incoming mail into multiple
inboxes, and mutt with some simple list management config options to deal
with the resulting mailboxes. I'm sure there are quite a few people on this
list willing to offer other suggestions as well.
