[oclug] Rogers sucks

I just read an apology in the Metro daily from a representative from 
Rogers to all Rogers users who recieved a threatening email notice 
regarding the use of Servers.  If this is accurate then it would appear 
Rogers is just sending notices everywhere and trying to shut down the 
Servers even if they're not sure the person they are emailing is doing 
it.  This representative went on to state that only a small percentage 
of users were using a large portion of the badnwidth on the network. 
What these poor fools don't seem to understand is that IT IS NOT the 
legitamate and for the most part innocent systems people who are 
actually doing this but infected WINDOWS computers spewing out streams 
of Nimbda and related viruses attack signatures etc. My research 
indicates all of these machines are WIndows NT and Windows 2000 systems 
which have server service, remote registry service, iis service, 
terminal services, etc etc etc turned on by default as well, easy prey 
to the hoards of kiddies out there. I think properly educating THOSE 
USERS would be a better solution for Rogers to take then punishing the 
innocent as well as the ignorant and just plain stupid. Perhaps if they 
allowed all Linux users to one group of subnets and Windows users in 
another they would be shocked by how much they would have to attend to 
one group over the other, a simplistic solution? perhaps but i feel it 
is certainly more customer oriented then the other approach....
