As an outsider Celcus didn't know what he was talking about. He was
reading intto the situation what he wanted to see, and probably couldn't
tell a real Christian from one who was not. There are too many who have
claimed the title `christian' in the world, but only one set of true
Christians -- the Catholics. It has always been the non-Catholics who
struck the first blow against God and His Church to which the Church has
had to repsond, sometimes for self presuervation.
Secondly, since you're quote is from the 2nd century, the author was
writing in order to debunk and to destroy Christians who were still mostly
slaves and had to have Mass in the catacombs. It is probably just Roman
propaganda trying to fend off Christ's appeal to the underclasses who they
felt threatened the stability of Rome. After all, as early as 67AD the
Christians were responsible for burning down central Rome, according to
Roman propaganda. This is nothing other than that.
By you're quoting of it, you are reducing yourself to his level. The
Catholic religion is the one true religion that God the Father gave to the
world through his Son, Jesus Christ and continues to guide through the
influence of the Holy Spirit. Everything else is false.
It is fair to say, that at this thread is closes, and we should move on.
