[oclug] Ripping problems

I've had this problem for a while now, and I'm not sure what's wrong.
I've been using cdparanoia (Actually, Grip, but it's using cdparanoia)
to rip a few tracks from my cd's and put them on my hard drive. After
about 3 or 4 cut tracks, cdparanoia shows the " :-p" face, which means
"Unreported loss of streaming in atomic read operation". I'm not sure
why this happens. To date, the only way to fix it, that I have found, is
to reboot. And then I have another 3 or 4 tracks until the same problem
comes up.
I'm pretty sure there isn't any problem with memory. Could it be the
drive? Any suggestions as to where I could look to help fix this
problem?
I'm using an 1200MHz Athlon, 512 MB of RAM, with a basic 52x cdrom,
running redhat 7.3, with version 2.4.18 of the kernel.
thanks in advance,
TC.
