Talking of whitespace and ancient languages.. I would rather whitespace
was ignored completely.  I still get nightmares of typing in 

9000 DATA "     .             |           .   "
9010 DATA "    .              |            .  "

and so on..  in case you haven't figured it out.. I was trying to type
out a proggy for a flight simulator for the C64 from a magazine..  That
was the runway, and I never quite got the whitespaces right.  Finally
blamed it on a lousy construction crew and played the game with crooked
lines :-)
