This is basically how Corel OS and derrivatives would install. Create a 
bootable linux iso that creates an operational linux in Ramdisc, which in 
turn goes through all the hardware detection process based on files located 
on the cd, then installs the necessary OS files on an HD which it has 
formatted, finally it writes the new boot loader to disc, then exists from 
memory. On reboot lilo takes over and points to the new install. At least I 
think thats how it worked...:) So in theory there should be no issues booting 
into a cd image in a particular partition provided your know the dynamics of 
combining all the required elements.
