Check the web page for that software. Most will tell what version is 
in the version of the kernel you have (for example, the ov511 web page 
will  tell you that kernel 2.4.x uses version 1.50.01) , and see if 
they have a new patch to apply against the kernel. Most (not all) 
websites for parts of the kernel supply this information. Also, you 
could check the change log to see if the log contains info on the last 
update of the driver. Perhaps the header files in the source, or the 
documents in the Documents directory of your kernel could also supply 
this information.
