Forgive me if I remain sceptical, but if you look at something like the
Debian project, it takes hundreds of people about two years of
development and testing to produce a "stable" release. That's with
**binaries**, so realistically they are dealing with a set of parameters
several orders of magnitude narrower than Gentoo. And things still break
on occasion.

I do think that Gentoo is kewl, though, and it will undoubtedly find a
niche somewhere. I just don't think that it's a direction that Linux as
a whole ought to go.
