mplayer with nvidia drivers allows me to play divx movies in dvd quality
at full screen while using only 1% of my cpu and getting no frame loss.
It couldn't have been that hard for them :)

Here is an excerpt from the transgaming beginner's guide:
CPU Type and Speed
------------------
Recommended minimum hardware is
- 500 MHz or faster Pentium or Athlon CPU
- 64MB of memory; 128 MB or higherrecommended
- 1-2 GB free hard disk space for games
- Linux Supported 3D graphics card with 16MB of video RAM is required.
  Nvidia GeForce-class GPU recommended.

They recommend nvidia and games are usually the most graphically
intensive thing that PC's do.
