Very good point Kevin.
I will append my plug to this one. I run a Redhat 7.2/7.3, updates, and
Ximian apt-get site for RPM users. Check out

Verifying a package, in the rpm world, means to test the checksums on
the files installed with the rpm for modifications. I am sure dpkg has
a similar tool.
