[oclug] kernel compiles with gcc 3.1

Just an FYI as I have spent a few hours on this.
I was attempting to compile linux 2.4.19-rc5 with freeswan on a rawhide
system. I had not noticed the last time I did an apt-get upgrade that
it installed gcc 3.1 as the default compiler -- not a big deal now that
I know about it :)
Anyway, gcc 3.1 seems to compile the kernel ok. Most things work fine
but once in a while it hickups and hangs the system. I was getting into
a problem that whenever I formed an IPSec tunnel over my wireless link,
or taken down the wireless device with an ipsec tunnel up, the system
would OOPS... tried to debug it but the traces made no sense.
After recompiling the kernel with 2.96 on a different box everything was
back to normal.
LESSON: don't try to compile 2.4.19 with gcc 3.1.
That is all.
