Sort of... PC/104(+) is a lot like ISA or PCI bus standards, only for a
smaller form-factor. One of the nice things about embedded computers and
parts (boards that make use of a PC/104 bus) is they tend to have a LOT
more technical documentation available. Think "custom laptop with
parts-schematics" and you're on the right track.
Have a browse around http://www.emjembedded.com/ to get an idea of what's
available. They have an online catalog as well as links to several
manufacturers' websites. Places like Cell Computing and JumpTEC.
That's actually what I'm using the 12GB IBM laptop drive for - I have it
hooked up to an Advantech PCM-5822 (http://www.advantech.com/) and have
been gradually building up a Linux-From-Scratch install on it. Lots of
fun! Still waiting for the UPS/laptop-style power supply; should arrive
Monday or Tuesday of next week, then I'll be able to cut the
hydro-tethers, courtesy of Tri-M Systems - http://www.tri-m.com/
Still have to work on the actual package though... That's wearable
computing for you. :-)
Andrew.
