You might wish to subscribe to suns-at-home mailing list.
Since April there has been one message with the
string IDPROM that is vaguely relevant to your problem,
and I have attached it.

Info on subscribing to the list is included in the
sig. of the message below.

Good luck with your sun.

A document by a long time Sun customer

"This is the new and hopefully improved Sun NVRAM FAQ. It is
an attempt to answer the following frequently asked questions
on comp.sys.sun.hardware and comp.sys.sun.admin.

1.When I turn on my Sun I get output which looks something like:

    Sun Workstation, Model Sun-XXXXXX Series.
ROM Rev X.X, XXMB memory installed
    ID PROM invalid.
Testing 0 Megabytes of Memory ... Completed.
ERROR: missing or invalid ID prom
    Requesting Internet address for 0:0:0:0:0:0

    or

    Sun Workstation, Model Sun-XXXX Series.
    Type 4 Keyboard
ROM Rev X.X, XXMB memory installed, Serial #16777215
Ethernet address ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff, Host ID ffffffff

    Invalid format type in NVRAM
    The IDPROM contents are invalid

How can I fix this? (Probably Replace chip)"

If you have a SunSpectrum service contract with Sun,
you can call 1-800-usa-4-SUN and ask for assistance.

If you don't have a contract, then there will be a time
and materials charge to get a replacement IDPROM/TOD/Battery
chip to you. Ideally you will be able to provide the hostid,
MAC (ethernet) address and what's printed on the label on
top of the IDPROM to the Sun Call Center or Technical Support
Enginer with whom you speak.

Don
