Actually, I know dep fairly well. He is an active contributing member of
the KDE Org and is the author of a current best selling technical
reference book, "Practical KDE" by Que Publishers (I think Nova Club and
Computer Books For Less has it). When he is not tinkering with KDE code,
he is writing on a variety of non-computing subject in order to pay for
his mortgage. He has written (amongst others) for Forbes magazine and is
a former Pulitzer nominee.

This article reflects dep's interest and concern in Linux desktop issues
and should be seen in that light. In fact, it is probably because of his
participation in the KDE group that he is bemoaning the fact that many
Linux companies are putting what he sees as too much emphasis recently
on the server (where the money is at present).
