Hello gang,

Before I start, here's a disclaimer: this is about Win98, but I'm seeking
a Linux solution, as it seems nothing in the Win/DOS world will help
me.

My parents' computer seems to have suffered a virus attack or something.
That wouldn't be too bad if one partition hadn't disappeared - the one
with a lot of their data. Win98 doesn't see the partition (nor does fdisk
in dos), Partition Magic can't load.

I booted with the Linuxcare rescue CD, and tried fdisk. It had trouble
reading the extended partitin (ie, marked partitions as "unknown" and
didn't list the last partition).

Is there a way to recover from this sad situation?
