I've noticed the phenomenon as well. I wasn't sure
if the problem was the Alcatel modem or the software.
I get my dsl from golden.net in Kitchener.
I use an Alcatel modem. (x86, kernel 2.2, Redhat 6.2)
My solution thus far has been to reboot the computer
which is most annoying. If I simply do an adsl-stop,
then an adsl-start, the problem reappear soon aftertwards.
I used to experience the problem *very* frequently using
ver 2.3 or rp-ppoe. Since I've upgraded to 2.8, the
frequency is about twice a month, which is tolerable.
