Peter:
I've bought the Ziegler book, and it is well worth the price of admission.
It clearly explains everything I've ever had questions about, including
those issues I didn't know enough about to ask. One caveat though is that
we are going to go through another major evolution stage soon with iptables
and stateful inspection with 2.4 kernels and up soon. It will be just like
the change from ipfwadm to ipchains, except far more complicated.
The phenominal increase of real firewall capability promised by iptables has
me watching with great interest, although I generally keep my systems at
least one generation behind the bleeding edge. It may be worthwhile to
check out if there is a new version in the works covering iptables.
I'm sure there are good web docs out there, but for me NOTHING beats having
bound paper in my hands for documentation.
