[oclug] Looking for recommendation for Linux box

About 6 months ago I installed RedHat 6.1 on a PC.
Configuration was a bit of a pain, especially to get the 
Ethernet card going, which required downloading a program
from the manufacturer's website, changing interrupts, etc.
Not my cup of tea.  (I've heard from other people about
difficulties with getting drivers for graphics cards, etc.)

But Linux is wonderful.

Now I'd like to buy a new system, and I wonder if anyone has
any recommendations for what system to purchase (from
whom, perhaps a local supplier?).  This could save me a lot 
of time and hassle.

I'm not looking for anything too fancy, maybe 512MB RAM,
20 GB disk, Ethernet card, 17 or 19 inch monitor,
three-button mouse, etc.
