I can completely vouch for this! Given that I've just had to tell
people in the US that I've moved to Ottawa, I've learned that the
vast majority of folks down there don't have a clue about the
provinces of Canada (except for Quebec - due to proximity many
people in NH know about Quebec)... so saying "Ottawa, Ontario"
gets blank stares... but "Ottawa in Canada", they understand.
It seems that as far as many of my fellow Americans are concerned,
Canada is just one big country somewhere up north.
