[oclug] mysql compile error

Ahoy,
    I'm using Debian 2.2, and when I download the latest mysql and when
running the ./configure --prefix=/usr/local/mysql
I get eventually:

checking for tgetent in -lncurses... no
checking for tgetent in -lcurses... no
checking for tgetent in -ltermcap... no
checking for termcap functions library... 

configure: error: No curses/termcap library found

I've tried installing at guesses ncurses dev libraries, termcap-compat, but 
to no avail.

Err,,, help?
