[oclug] Any objections to moving meetings to first Thursdays?

Folks,

At the meeting this week, Mike Anderson stood up and said that there
are *no* rooms available at Algonquin on Wednesday nights for this
upcoming semester. (In fact, the college will have to be cancelling
some classes because they need 3 more rooms than they have.)
However, the scheduling person told him that the room we met in, A130,
*is* available on the first Thursday night and that can be guaranteed
on every first Thursday through September.

A130 is the nice theatre-style room with chalkboards on the front and
the built-in projector that connects to computer systems. It's a nice
place to meet.  We met there last month and this month.

So at the meeting we discussed options. There are really two choices:
1) continue meeting on Wednesdays but find another location; or
2) move to the first Thursday and use this room.

There was some discussion about whether to move to the first or 
second Thursday, with Mike saying that: a) he was sure he could get
the room on the first Thursday, but didn't (at the time of the meeting)
know about the second; and b) the first week of the month is often
the start of semesters at the college and is slow, thus virtually
guaranteeing that the room would be available those weeks.

At the end of the discussion with the 40 or 50 people there, the 
decision was made (with only 1 or 2 dissenting votes as I recall)
to move at least the next meeting to the first Thursday of the
month (February 1, 2001).  

I'm not entirely sure if we resolved how we would determine the
future of meeting dates after that.  I thought I recalled that
we decided to move the meetings to the first Thursday of the month, 
unless there was great dissension on this mailing list *and* someone
could provide an alternative location for meetings.  However, 
someone else sent me a copy of their notes of the meeting (thank you)
that said we would vote *at the Feb 1* meeting to determine the future
meeting times, with those present voting.

In either event, we need to decide rather soon so that Mike can lock
in the dates through September. (And we can start lining up speakers)

So I'll throw it out to the list. Given the constraints on the room,
are there any strenuous objections to moving to the first Thursday
of each month, at least through September?  (And if you *do* object, 
can you find an alternative meeting place?)
