Keeping in mind that KDE2.1 is still beta, and I am only using it on one
system, top 3 good and bad in my mind:

The good:

1) Lock screen and logout are back on the toolbar (where they belong ;-)
2) Some glitches that were present in 2.0 appear to be gone, an the UI looks
better
3) As stated by someone else, sound has improved

The bad:

1) While IMAP has been added to KMail, using it makes KMail completely
unusable (crashes after reading 1-2 messages). Luckily, they didn't break
the pop3 portion.
2) Konqueror must be bleeding memory all over the place. Just having it
open causes graphics corruption of the toolbar and title bars of windows
3) Bloat seems to be setting in, although this is true of KDE 2.0 too.
Logging in takes significantly longer than it should (almost as long as my
slightly higher performance win2k system at work)

I'm starting to wonder if we need a fundamental shift in GUI design anyway,
away from the WIMP (Windows, Icons, Menus, Pointer) concept. Apple and MS
are now touting their "radical new GUI's" (Aqua in OS X and Luna in Win XP),
but they're not as much of an advance as they're made out to be. What I've
seen of Luna to this point looks to me to be worse than the current Windows
interface.

Unfortunately, I don't have any good ideas :-(

Doug
