I hate being a 'me too' guy, but I have to agree with Nam... stay away from
7.0. This is by far the
worst distro to come out of NC in a long time. There is still far to much
emphasis on Gnome (which is IMO, holding them and Linux back from ever
reaching the avarage desktop), and not enough on KDE and KDE2 with KDE1
cpmpatibility libs.
Linux Mandrake 7.2 is a far superior RH based distro, it sets up well, has by
far the coolest install and startup routines, used KDE2 and X4 very well, is
very fast and very complete. My only complaint with it is they changed thier
configuration manager from 7.1 and frankly it works no where near as
well...one of the old, "if it aint broke dont fix it" kinda problems, and KDE1
compatibility is terrible.
I have been a RH guy since 4.2, but 7.0 turned me off so much that I have
since become a die hard fan of SuSE (pronounced susae not sus or susee as so
many like to say, kinda like Porche is pronounced Porsha not Porsh). It is
typicly German (read over-engineered) but is rock solid and works flawlessly.
Its learning curve for a RH convert is a bit steep but well worth the effort.
I gave up on Slackware back when I became a RH convert and haven't looked
back.. I have tried each new Slack distro but its just so plain vanila as to
be boring. Good for light server needs, terrible on the desktop.
Corel, being a MS sell out is no longer even worth considering and anybody who
uses it is supporting MS's dominance of the computer market place. (i will
spare you any more on that topic for now ;))
As always i love talking about Linux so if you have any questions let me know.
