I think Kmail in KDE2.0 specifically does NOT default to reading HTML
mail. In the configuration section where you turn it on there's a huge
warning message about its evils. I can't verify this now, as I'm not at
home....So don't quote me on that ;-)

Pine handles most HTML messages pretty well too, and I don't feel
threatened by its HTML renering capabilities because it doesn't actually
go and download images or java[script]. Someone please inform me if I
should worry.

I personally never send HTML email. To me it feels like I'm dotting my
i's with little hearts or something. :-) And besides, HTML is a
language who's display is left to the interpreter, so it will probably
end up looking funny on at least some peoples' HTML-compliant email
readers.

As for PGP signatures, I don't really see them as being necessary on a
discussion list, unless you really need to allow verification of a
particularly important message. Useful for major announcements too.
But the signatures themselves don't bother me.

Cheers,
Vic
