I hate to point out the obvious, but this thread really sucks.

Those who use html in e-mail do so at the risk that some people do not use 
mail clients which can handle it, and won't read it.  Big deal.  It's not 
like the future of Linux or the price of tea in China is affected by it.

If you recall, html mail was not Microsoft's idea in the first place.  It was 
Netscape's (Waaaay back in '93-94 with .95 Beta)  At the time Microsoft Mail 
couldn't even handle smtp properly.  At least html is an almost universal 
standard, we could do a lot worse.
