I hate to tell both of you esteemed lads that your both wrong on this one
having spend my earlier years in the auto industry. It's completely self
motivated and more predatory and politically driven than MS ever was/is
Furthermore the industry's negative impacts have a far greater reach and
impact than benign computer technologies which have a net environmental
impact of zero. What people do with this later technology is a different
story. This does not mean Im against cars.. Heck no, I still want a porshe
some day:=)

The hydrogen cells being discussed originally (above) are very safe and
subject to a variety of federal regulations as early as the design phase
never mind production or distribution phase which is typically a three to
four year process that is subject to further regulatory input at all stages.
The irony is they still produce cars that arguably have an non balanced
environmental impact. Self generating vehicles have the potential to change
that equation, but in terms of vested economic interests they are really a
political statement rather than and engineering solution to mass and personal
transit with an acceptable environmental mass balance or input/output
equation.

As far as the Hindenburg is concerned it has now been demonstrated that one
of the most famous explosions in history next to the space shuttle was not
sabotage or the use of hydrogen rather ( these air ships, 7? in total, were
in operation for over five years, and held all kinds of distance and safety
records in comparison to air travel of the period) was the result of the
various chemical additives that were included in the "dope" that was used in
"stabilizing" and "waterproofing" the exterior cloth of this airship.
Interestingly enough the original design engineers of the Hindenburg
documented all this as they made changes to the "dope" formula to reduce
weight to the Hindenburg only. Due to the political currents at this time,
the sabotage theory was put forward and propagated to avoid assessment of
their documented errors. It is now believed that it was this combination of
chemical additions that resulted in an extremely flammable exterior shell
(noteably in the Hindenburg only) that ignited due to static discharges in
the vicinity as it approached its landing pier. Not found on goole, rather on
PBS while in Florida. :=)

BTW, what exactly does this have to do with linux. Perhaps you could help me
figure out how to edit pdf files. That really seems more productive from this
end, than a debate on transportation:=) But then again maybe not.

Best as always

Chris
