Although, if Windows users held only, say, 80% of the market, that's
plenty to run on. They'd then be rid of the "trouble" of supporting
Linux and Mac users.
I think it comes down to one question - do they really care? Probably
not, and if the revenue stream is sufficient either way, they have no
incentive to care.
Think of this: suppose you ran a grocery store. 80% of your customers
want white bread. 10% want rye and 10% want whole wheat. You might make
a bit of an effort to stock those "off brands", but you probably wouldn't
be too concerned if the special orders don't arrive from time to time
since you don't need those sales to be profitable. Conversely, you'd be
more upset if you did stock those other brands, and very little, if any,
was purchased. It'd be a waste of your time and money to cater to that
small segment (and that's really what specialty shops are for anyway).
