For a distro, I would take a look at e-smith. http://www.e-smith.com
Their server and gateway product should be able to handle what you
want. The current version 4.0 is based on RedHat 6.1 but, there is a
new version 4.1 based on RedHat 7 due out anyday now.
I use is as strickly a mail server, but it has the capability to be
used as a web server, mail server, ftp server, etc. It's a breeze to
administer. And will run on any hardware on the RedHat HCL. So any
half decent Pentium III system will do fine.
One of the really cool things is that e-smith is a commercial
product, but you can get the iso for free from their ftp site. (But
the cost for service is very reasonable too)
Anyway, they are definately worth a look see, and they are local too
boot!.
