[oclug] Need advice on server specs

I've got a client of mine who like me to install a linux box the act as a
webserver. It will be used for some ecommerce venture (ugh what is he
thinking ?) and some webhosting for his clients. His specifications of what
he wants to server to do are vary vague but I would like to have somehting
that can handle a moderate amount of transactions a day . Anyone have any
ideas as far as hardware and which distro to go with ?
