GR:	It's big, bloated, kinda slow... but... it has a few things to
commend it: Drag 'n drop, fairly inuitive, nice menus, a panel (task
bar), or more than one if you wish, a nice Control Center, highly
configurable, uses different window managers, has some pretty nice
apps and utilities (which you can run in a wm like icewm, windowmaker,
xfce and some others. In sort, there's a price to pay for anything and
GNOME exacts its own price.

I've used KDE, but it's bigger, slower and more bloated than GNOME,
including Ximian GNOME. I'm thinking of removing it altogether, I
don't think it's worth it.

If you don't really need all the bells and whistles and you want speed
with a smaller footprint, try icewm, windowmaker or xfce (among
others). They have a small footprint compared to GNOME or KDE, they're
very fast and -- I find -- work well with GNOME appps and utilities,
as well as X apps.
