[oclug] Linux and AMD?

I'm running a T-Bird 1.2Ghz system with Linux (and some times windows, which
I'm forced for the time being until I get a new modem). It works great! I
haven't had any problems related to cpu what so ever. I also have an SMP
system with dual P3 1GHz's, and while racing the two systems on compiling a
kernel (2.4.6), my 1.2GHz with 512MB of ram smoked the dual P3 system which
had 1 gig of ram.
One word of advice: FANS! The T-Bird does put out quite a bit of heat.
So much so in my system that I had to install an other fan in the rear of my
case (which I should have done in the first place) to go along with the fan
in the front of my case, and I still have quite a bit of heat coming off the
machine. It doesn't seem to be effecting system performance, but I always
get nervous when there is allot of heat involved (so until I install a 3rd
fan in the case, I have the side cover off the machine and a standard fan
that you would use in your bedroom or living room facing the inside). I
have a heavy duty fan + heatsink on the cpu right now, not sure of the brand
or any stats on it, but the thing is as big as my fist!
