[oclug] Fork question

Hi everyone,

I ran into a problem yesterday . First, here the current setup:

Red Hat 6.2, (2.2.18),
on a PII @ 450
with 256M of mem and
730M of swap.

We currently are trying to accomodate approximatly 50 Vnc sessions at
the same time (all of which use gnome). The most sessions we have active
at the same time, doing some legit work, not standing dormant, is 25.

Yesterday the server started to have some problems allowing new users in
(even just ssh-ing in to set up their session, let alone trying to start
a session). It gave a fork error: resource temporarely unvailable. The
message was repeated for every command entered. Some users were allowed
in without that nasty message, started the session but got an empty
screen when they connected to it. The Vnc log files reavelad that most
application could not start due to lack of resources.

Would increasing the memory help in any way?

Thanks,
