Members:
Has OCLUG helped you out of a jam in the past? Has the organisation(s) you
work with benefited from Linux and open source software? Have you been able
to implement functional solutions to business problems as a result of the
(free as in beer) collective experience and expertise at your disposal on
this list? Have you been entertained by the lively messages and strong
opinions?
If you, your clients or your employers think OCLUG has been a benefit,
please read this message and consider helping out.
OCLUG members (and I mean EVERYONE subscribed to the list), as most of you
are all probably aware OCLUG has become a non-profit Ontario corporation.
The reasons for doing so have been debated at length on this list and the
OCLUG-BOARD list (all members are WELCOME to join). We proceeded with the
incorporation after long debate as a solid majority of the members that
voted at multiple meetings supported the benefits and increased
opportunities that incorporation provided.
To become incorporated, we engaged a lawyer and proceeded with all attention
to minimising costs. The legal bill is now due, and we need interested
members, employers and community members to consider making a contribution
help defray these costs.
The total bill for incorporation was approximately $1,800 Canadian dollars.
We currently have about $1000 in the bank, thanks to generous donations and
a little excess money collected from our summer picnic. The balance
outstanding needs to be collected reasonably quickly, so we can pay our
legal bills.
Any donations and contributions can be made by contacting Mike Kenzie on the
list (our treasurer), who will issue official receipts for the contributions
(one of the benefits of incorporation). If contributors choose, they may
choose to have their name listed on the OCLUG web site as an OCLUG
sponsor/patron. Please note that OCLUG is NOT a registered charity,
therefore contributions are NOT tax deductable.
Please do not feel obligated to contribute financially, OCLUG has always
been and will remain open, free and without financial barrier to everyone
interested in Linux, open source software and our philosophy.
Thanks in advance to everyone.
