Check the IBM Home Stores as they are always clearing out defunkt product 
lines, returned orders, or leased units. Interestingly enough slash is 
running a brief story about the same question. Finally see 
http://ebaystores.com (IBM store) for alternative clearout of IBM equipement. 
Asside from IBM, Toshiba's and Dell's seem to get the highest ratings for 
used hardware. If  you can but an extended warranty if you purchase from a 
dealer as it will be well worth in my expereince.
