[oclug] Alcatel ADSL modem advisory...

Yep, I do have to agree with you. I too also have no chance of getting
highspeed access before the next iceage rages over this continent (given
the pokey way the local town council is handling things, but I digress),
and I found the post interesting.

I see why some people get all hot under the collar for offtopic posts, but
this really isn't the kernel list... a few offtopic posts (or even a
thread) don't signify the end of the world for a low traffic list such as
this. Further, as someone who has contributed more than one offtopic post
in the (recent) past, I'm sure as hell not gonna be tossing
stones. :) If the list degenerated into constant offtopic bickering, I
could see reason for complaint, but I suspect that even with the odd
flamewar, the anti-MS hate parades and other irrelevant subjects, the
percentage of offtopic traffic to ontopic traffic is very small.

To create a relation between Linux and the article, it could be argued
that many of the Linux systems used by members here, are fed by Alcatel
modems. Certainly the one we have at the office is an Alcatel
product. I'm sure there were quite a few members' eyebrows raised upon
reading the note.
