If I remember my physics, you can't create energy, you can only store it
or release it. In solar cell construction, consider the time (and
materials) to design the cells, the time and materials to build
prototypes, the components which had to be mined or extracted and refined
for each of the above, the materials and components of such used to build
the plants to build the final product and the materials used in the finals
product. You have steel production, other metal production, chemical
production, plastic production, etc.
Each process has waste, which if there was no demand for the
final product, would be minimal to zero. As demand increases, so does
waste production. By building a "clean car", you transfer the
production of pollutants and put them in someone else's backyard. If we
want a truly clean car, we'll also have to seriously improve manufacturing
methods to reduce waste.
