[oclug] Parking for Aug Meeting

I love my car. The majority of people in western society love their
cars. Our particular society has evolved from the walking/horse-riding
days of old to the rapid transit days of the present. All the Kum-by-ya
dreaming of flowery paths and birds chirping in the Market will not change
that. What will change is the technology employed by cars (internal
combustion engine replaced by electrics, etc), which I am in full support
of.
I would counter that so-called noise pollution does not harm the
environment in any fashion. If you could even assign it a tangile
attribute, it completely disappears when the car passes, so aside from
annoying some greenies, nothing has been negatively impacted. This
argument is akin to the young lass who builds her house beside an airport
and then complains of the noise. Further, complaints of road congestion I
feel are moot since roads are built for transportation purposes. Cars use
roads... people should not be on roads. Why not walk, blade or bike on
the sidewalks and paths provided?
And... the majority of oil is used for the plastics industry, not the auto
industry... something to the effect that 90% is earmarked for
plastics. Even if we all gave up our cars, there will still be a huge
demand for Tupperware, Saran Wrap and virtually every other product we
use.
