I do not believe we will see non-polluting cars in the next couple of
decades at the earliest.  Even electrical cars contribute to pollution
(Electricity must be generated somehow, and lead-acid batteries are not
perfectly clean when they have to be disposed of.)

Even solar power contributes to pollution.  Manufacturing solar cells consumes
a lot of energy, and involves some fairly nasty chemicals.
