This is/has been an issue with alot of people actually. I have heard
however that the latest release of Nautilus is *said* to be faster,
and speed is #1 on the "needs to be improved" list. Keep in mind
however that I can't back this up, and this is only 2nd hand info. 

But if Nautilus speed is an issue with, you might find it advantagious
to check that out. just FYI :)
