I tried both Red Hat 7.1 and Linux-Mandrake 8.0 this weekend, here's what I
found.

Sandbox PC configuration.
AMD K6-300, 68 Meg Ram, 2 hard drives
16 Meg Voodoo 3-2000 (PCI), Intelimouse with wheel.
102 KBoard. Mag JT707 Monitor, 16x CDRom.

LM8.0, very nice installation routine, graphical and user friendly.
Full installation was 1.5 hours. No problems with hardware detection.
Some noticable features:
XMMS come with all available skins. Plugins are limited to Sound
modification only.
ALSA is standard sound play driver and very nice at that.
3DFX is configured but only for XFree86 3.3.x. No other drivers and
libraries found on two installation disk. Recognised and configure the
installation/application to use the mouse wheel.
The software installation/updater sucks, puts up two windows each time and
crashes???.
Nautilus and Evolution are nice but Nautilus is slowwww, very slowww to use.
My guess is that the kernel is not compiled correctly for the AMD chip, that
may be the reason for
Nautilus being so slow and all other application in general, not sure.

RedHat 7.1, nice installation, graphical, user friendly for sure.
Full installation was about 2.5 hours, 4 CD's are available for download.
Same KDE/GNOME as LM. Video card was well configured with proper libraries
and such.
OpenGL works nice, the updater requires you to register but it's flawless
and practical.
RH runs faster than LM. The GTV mpeg player is great, no breaking or flaws
in playing movies at all.
You need to run sndconfig, even if detected at reboot time.

OK, enough bandwidth taken from you all. I prefer RH7.1 to LM8.0. It's
faster, more apps available, better updater and installer.

If this was informative to you great, otherwise, take it easy, I do this
once every new release.
