I dunno  Mike, but maybe this is relative to the X server resolution:
xdpyinfo.  Also man Xserver.  I see I have -dpi 100 set, but I can't
remember exactly why.  I guess I could say for sure by playing around
with it, but I don't want to tempt fate.  If it ain't broke ....  8-(

You're probably aware that there are 4 HOWTOs at

One of them is for Debian/TTF.  Also I see the Deuglification one was
just updated.
