The problem with latin as a universal language is, IMHO, that native
speakers of different languages pronounce it very differently. Three
native German, English, and Italian speakers would find it impossible
to understand each other, unless they use a pencil and a piece of
paper.
It's almost like talking programming languages. Noone would understand
spoken Perl, I guess.
