Yes, I did seem to think that - and, I still expect it to not
work flawlessly on a portion of packages, leaving those items
half-installed, "unconfigured", and not working. I realized
after I wrote the above message that as many people use it,
it certainly must _not_ blow away configuration files.
I also realized that I have partitioned my system so I can
do a full reinstall, and can then replace configuration files
from a regular backup. This has saved me time in the long run.
I guess that's my approximation to "apt-get upgrade", for now.
