If it's straight Potato it should work fine.  Is the font server running 
properly?  (execute 'xset q | grep 7102' to find out)  

Another area that's caused some problems is the code that reads the printcap
file.  You can update the library that does that here:

Finally, you may want to make sure that you don't have any other version
of Wine installed.  Some packagers (I'm not sure about Debian) have put
some of the Wine .so-DLLs into the ld.so path, which causes the wrong
version of the .so-DLLs to be loaded, with the obvious results.  You
can work around this in several different ways, but given the vintage
of the Potato version of Wine, you're better off just removing it.
