I've got an AOpen 56K PCI modem with a conexant chip on it. I suspect it
is a controller-less winmodem but only because I can't get it to work. I
did some reading and some suggestions were:
cat /proc/pci to get the irq/i/o of the card and then use
setserial /dev/ttyS2 irq x port y autoconfig.
this had no effect.
I also read that 2.4.x had better PCI support and thought it might have
better PCI modem support. This isn't the case. It did recognize the
device as a conexant controller so the PCI detection is better but the
modem support is the same.
If indeed, the modem is a winmodem (controller-less) then it's no wonder
it doesn't work in linux since all the work is done in the windows only
driver. the card is basically an i/o card. Only a driver from the
manufacture would work and most don't release linux drivers which make
winmodems into linmodems.
Is there anything I'm missing?? Any help would be appreciated.
Also, if anyone has had any success in any linux distro with any PCI modem
I would be very interested in the manufacture/model #/approximate price.
