The Ottawa Canada Linux Users Group invites you to attend their
October monthly meeting.
Topics: * What's new with GNOME 2.12
* Celestia space simulator
* Mambo / Joomla CMS
Pat Suwalski: Gnome 2.12 and Celestia:
The latest release of the world's most popular open-source desktop is
version 2.12. There are several new components in this release, a new
default look, as well as many bug fixes. The biggest component change is
the move to Cairo as the drawing engine. Since this release is still not
easily available for all users, this talk will give a run-down on the
newest features and enhancements available, as well as a demo.
Celestia is an OpenGL-based space simulator. It uses state-of-the-art
OpenGL techniques to provide a fully-interactive simulation of the known
universe. Its level of detail ranges from the smallest of satellites
through to galactic scales. This talk will give an overview and a
demonstration of features.
Pat Suwalski has been using Linux for eight years. He is the developer
of the Celestia GTK+ interface and hangs out with the Gnome gang. When
not at the computer, he is likely to be found building something in
scale and dreaming of a career in filmography.
Zac Sprackett will also present on the Mambo / Joomla Content Management
Systems.
Zac Sprackett has been using Linux professionally since 1997. He worked
on the NetWinder at Corel Computer Corp. and co-authored the VA Cluster
Manager (vacm) during his tenure at VA Linux Systems. He now works on
Sourceforge at VA Software.
After the meeting, all are welcome to attend the montly Beer SIG at the
Cock & Lion Ale House, 202 Sparks Street near Bank.
