This month's meeting is on a new weekday (Wednesday!) and at a new
location (Ottawa Public Library!), so please come out to welcome us at
our new home. This month's presentations deal with using graphics
applications with Linux.
Vic Gedris will give a presentation about Linux and Digital Photography.
Some of the topics to be covered include: Why go digital?, How to get
your digital camera working under Linux, software for downloading
pictures from your camera, programs for scriptable photo manipulation,
picure viewers/editors, reading EXIF information, getting your pics
developed at Linux-friendly places, and more. Vic isn't a professional
photographer, but he has a keen interest in taking pictures and of
course using Linux when he's not busy working as a network admin at
OEone.
Our second presenter this month is Stephanie Fox, who will give us an
introduction to The GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program), including
photo enhancing and manipulation. When asked for a bio, Stephanie
replied with: "Surely you jest! Stephanie Fox is a college student,
artist, and supporter of the open source community. Among other things,
she is not particularly good at writing bios for herself. ;)"
Following the meeting, many OCLUG member wander over to a local pub.
This month's venue is Mayflower II, located at 201 Queen St. just east
of Bank St. Come join us for a friendly chat over good food and drinks,
even if you can't make it to the main event.
